2020 was a good year for blockchain gaming. We have seen institutional investors moving into space ($70M was invested according to Blockchain Game Alliance report), we have seen growth in daily activity and transactions on blockchain games.
What stood out was the strong rise of NFT marketplaces, the trading value climbed to $78M in the second half of the year. Maybe you heard about Cryptokitties, some time ago and did not pay attention to the market since. It is time for you to notice!
Non-fungible tokens (NFTs) are unique, digital items with blockchain-managed ownership. When you ask experts, to describe NFTs in their own words, you hear many interesting thoughts. New asset class. Stories and experiences. Unique digital item. Collectibles, art, domains. Way to enforce digital scarcity. A token representing ownership of physical goods.
For us at GAMEE, the most important things about NFTs is the ability to give gaming assets real property rights.
Why? In gaming, players are used to virtual worlds, economies, multiple virtual currencies, this is nothing new at all. Millions of players invest in costumes, skins for their game characters, this actually is a multi-billion industry. Billions are spent on in-game items, game characters, upgrades. But players never really own what they have bought.
To really own an item, you should be able to decide and control, in a same way as with a physical item, whether you want to use it, simply keep it, borrow it to someone or even sell it when you do not want it anymore.
We are excited about NFTs, because this is exactly what they bring to the table. True ownership, property rights of gaming assets.
This year, we expect several new exciting NFT projects to be launched. We expect big brands to partner with entertainment, to bring collectibles, merchandise to this exciting technology. Several great gaming projects will go to full launch this year. NFTs will get a lot more exposure to main stream audiences.
